Hour of Devastation is the fourth set in Magic: The Gathering Arena and the second set in the Amonkhet block.

During an preceding Developer Livestreams Hour of Devastation was confirmed to be playable during the closed beta.

Chronological DiscrepancyEdit

While in paper Magic Hour of Devastation was released on July 14, 2017, in Arena it was implemented in-game after the Ixalan block which was released in September 29, 2017 in paper Magic/since the alpha phase in Arena.

Themes & MechanicsEdit

With Hour of Devastation these mechanics were introduced to Arena:[1]

  • Afflict: A keyword ability that makes the defending player lose life for blocking.

  • Deserts: A returning non-basic land type from Amonkhet.
  • Eternalize: A keyword ability that lets a player exile a creature card from their graveyard to create an eternalized token version of that card.
